Wednesday Worship Minute

February 25, 2026

Our kids’ choir will be singing a song in worship this week; it’s the first time they’ve sung in church since Christmas, so they’re pretty excited! I took some time during our practice last week to make sure at least the older kids understand what they’re singing, and we had a pretty good talk! Sometimes I think kids are easier to talk to about God’s Word and what it says than adults – when I told them what the Bible said they believed me immediately, without question. What would happen, I wonder, if all the grownup believers on any given day believed instantly what they read in the Bible about God or about themselves…?

Anyway, the song is called Who He Says I Am, and I first heard it back in 2010 when Salem did Saddle Ridge Ranch for VBS (vacation Bible school). Here are the words for the chorus:

I am who the Great I AM says I am I am one of His greatest creations He says that I am remarkably wonderfully made I am who He says I am

First, we talked about who the Great I AM is – God the Father, as introduced to Moses from the midst of the burning bush that was not consumed (see Exodus 3). Moses wanted to make sure the Israeli slaves would listen to him so he asked God who he should say sent him to them. God’s reply was, “I AM WHO I AM.” Once the kids realized that the song was saying we are who God says we are, and that He gets to say who we are because He is the One who created us, the discussion got very lively. We talked about what the words remarkable and wonderful mean, and that they are positive words (words that make us feel good). They come from Psalm 139:14 where David is singing about how intimately his Maker knows and understands him, and that there is nowhere in heaven or on earth where he could go that God could not find him and come to him there. It is one of my very favorite Psalms, and the kids were really happy to be reminded that God made them and thinks they are wonderful. That should make us all happy, right?

What if we spent more of our day believing and rejoicing in what God says about us, and less of it worrying about what other people think or say about us? I can think of quite a few benefits – more positivity, more productivity, less anxiety, less stress, less money spent on what everyone else is eating or drinking, wearing or driving, better sleep at night, healthier relationships…need I go on?

I hope to see you in worship on Sunday, for your sake and for the kids!
