Our congregation here at Salem has been singing so well lately, and it really encourages me! Two weeks ago, we brought in a new song with the choir to introduce it, and so many of my singers after service said things like, “They were really singing!” or “I could see people singing!” and one even said, “Even the guys were singing!” Wonders never cease…
So, fresh off our recent success in engaging our moderately reserved members, we are going to introduce another worship song this week, this time with the help of our newly (re)formed praise team. This song is so good, and it aligns perfectly with Pastor Doug’s ongoing sermon series Miracles in Mark! The song’s title is I Know a Name, and it was written by Brandon Lake | Hank Bentley | Jacob Sooter | Steven Furtick of Elevation Worship and features the vocal talents of Brandon Lake and CeCe Winans. If you have been walking with Jesus for any length of time, you already know that there is power in His name. If you have read your New Testament you know of the miracles carried out by everyday folks, in the name of Jesus. The blind received their sight, the deaf heard again and mute people spoke. Raging seas and hurricane winds were calmed. Demons were cast out, never to return, and the dead were brought back to life, all in the power of His mighty name. Even today prayers are answered, closed doors are opened, physical and emotional and financial needs are met, and souls are saved. We don’t hear about these things in the national news, but they are happening all over the world. This song mentions some of the New Testament miracles and the prophecies they fulfilled (see Ezekiel 37:1-14, Hosea 13:14, 1 Corinthians 15:55-57), giving testimony to the unlimited power believers call upon when they cry out to Jesus in faith. What an amazing thing!
