This will be my last Wednesday Worship Minute for a few weeks at least. I will be having surgery on Monday, August 17th to repair a hiatal hernia and tighten the opening between my stomach and esophagus. The goal is to cure my reflux disease and stop the damage being done to my esophagus and vocal cords. The recovery time is 4-6 weeks, so I may not be back in worship with all of you until the end of September. I am praying my recovery will be faster than expected, but I have prepared enough music to last through the worst-case scenario, and I will be working from home if I can to make sure planning for fall and Advent is complete before I come back to church.
Every Sunday that I miss, our Music and AV teams will be in the sanctuary, worshiping with the congregation and supporting Pastor Doug from the booth during the services. My daughters are all close by and will be available to help me and Scott should we need it, and I will not need any assistance with meals because I will be on a very strict diet for the first four weeks after surgery (Ugh). God has provided everything I need for this leave of absence, and I am trusting all of you to continue to worship and pray and praise together just as fervently as you do when we are on the stage in front of you on a Sunday morning. You can do this!
I would appreciate your prayers for a quick recovery and that no further damage is discovered during the surgery. I love my job, and I need to be able to sing to do it. The list of the songs you’ll be singing in worship while I’m gone are right below this Sunday’s set in this post, and it should be fun for y’all to sing along with some of the singers and songwriters God has used to compose and produce the songs we sing to him every Sunday. You will also be able to worship alongside some other congregations and their pastors for the hymns we love to worship with. It will be a unique experience for all of us, and I am counting on each of you to come every Sunday morning with a clean heart and a positive attitude for worship – whatever it looks or sounds like.
