Wednesday Worship Minute

February 4, 2026

Well, it’s still white outside, and we’re still not meeting in person. Are we okay, or are we struggling? Are we still walking by faith and worshiping as a lifestyle, or are we falling into listlessness and laziness? Are we making exciting plans to carry out when we get back to church, or are we settling into the luxury of available Wednesday nights and Sundays on the couch watching church online? I am very much reminded of 2020-21, when restrictions were lifted but very few of us came back to church, and I am praying, praying, praying that we will not go down that same road…

I for one am really struggling with disconnectedness – if that is even a word! I love my church, and I love getting together in person for Bible study and worship, for rehearsals, for planning and prayer time. It wears me out and brings me joy and fulfillment, all at the same time. Nothing is more encouraging to me than going to church, and it takes a lot to keep me away. However, I am grateful to God for the extra rest, and for showing me how much I need the fellowship/discipleship/ministry/worship/evangelism that comes with active involvement at Salem. The author of Hebrews absolutely knew what He was saying when He reminded us not to “…forsake the gathering of [our]selves together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” (Hebrews 10:25) God absolutely knew that we would be tempted to fall away, even “just for a Sunday,” and that our enemy would be quick to point out the “advantages” of staying home (more sleep/rest, fewer germs/illnesses, more free time, family time, chore time, etc.). The truth is that if we seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, all the things we need will be added to us (see Matthew 6:33). Church involvement is a big part of working for the kingdom of God. Christ died for the church. She is described as His “bride,” and one of these days He will be returning for her. What could be more important than making sure as many people as possible are ready for that incredible day?!

So once again I am making plans for this Sunday – planning worship sets, scheduling rehearsals, working on arrangements and practicing vocals and accompaniment. By faith I plan, and I watch and wait to see what God will do, and trust that He will show me what He wants me to do, whether it is coming to church to lead worship in the sanctuary or having one on one worship with Him in my small library at home. Either way I will experience the presence of God. Either way I will worship. But I will continue to ask, please, Lord – let us get together this weekend as a church body. Amen!

I hope to see you on Sunday for worship.
